Phong Nha - Kẻ Bàng recognized as a provincial-level tourist area

Phong Nha, July 16, 2026 – The People's Committee of Quang Tri Province issued Decision No. 2850/QD-UBND recognizing the Phong Nha - Kẻ Bàng Tourist Area as a provincial-level tourist area. This is an important milestone, laying the foundation for the locality to continue investing in infrastructure, enhancing service quality, and promoting the value of the World Natural Heritage site in sustainable tourism development.

According to the decision of the Provincial People's Committee, the Phong Nha - Kẻ Bàng Tourist Area meets the criteria specified under the Law on Tourism, including unique tourism resources, a step-by-step improving infrastructure system, increasingly diverse visitor services, and strong connectivity with regional tourist routes and spots.

Being recognized as a provincial-level tourist area not only affirms Phong Nha - Kẻ Bàng's position in Quang Tri Province's tourism development strategy, but also opens up opportunities to attract investment resources into infrastructure, develop high-quality tourism products, and enhance the destination's competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.

Currently, Phong Nha - Kẻ Bàng is one of Vietnam's most prominent destinations, featuring a system of over 400 surveyed caves, numerous underground rivers, primary forests, and a diverse ecosystem. It has been inscribed twice by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site for its outstanding values in geology, geomorphology, and biodiversity.

In addition to famous attractions such as Phong Nha Cave, Thiên Đường Cave, Dark Cave, and the Son River, the area has developed various experiential tourism products, including cave exploration, primary forest trekking, kayaking, cycling through rural villages, and community-based tourism. These products contribute to extending visitors' length of stay and generating additional livelihoods for local residents.

According to the local tourism sector, the recognition as a provincial-level tourist area will serve as a basis to further promote the image of Phong Nha - Kẻ Bàng, attract high-quality investment projects, and emphasize green, sustainable, and eco-friendly tourism development. The conservation of natural resources remains a top priority to preserve the unique values of the World Natural Heritage site for future generations.

In the coming time, the locality will continue to upgrade transport infrastructure, refine service systems, step up digital transformation in tourism operations, and introduce new products to meet the increasingly diverse needs of both domestic and international tourists.
